Robert Hamnett in Glossop, Derbyshire

'ROBERT HAMNETT
1855–1914
Glossop's first historian
and archaeologist
lived in the Railway Inn
which stood on this site
until 1909'

Norfolk Street, Glossop. Robert Hamnett was a 'watchmaker journeyman' with a shop at 14a High Street East and is perhaps best known for his book Glossop: A Sketch 'from the Earliest Period' (1904). The plaque was erected towards the end of last year.

My thanks to Woden for re-discovering a link to Hamnett's book here.

Dr. Shaw,
The link to Hanmett's publication is broken. Did you download a copy?
